Credit Card Fraud is a huge problem in online gaming. Here are some of the countries that have shown a history of fraudulent transactions. When it comes to credit card fraud and other internet scams, there are several countries given special attention by online gambling companies. And just who are the biggest culprits? We hate to single out an entire country and paint all of its citizens with the same brush, but the simple fact remains that some online gambling operators choose not to take on customers from such regions - or at least not accept their credit cards. 10 - The Russian Federation ranks in around number 10, though many operators might put Russia as number one. It is not surprising since this is a region in transition over the past decade. Many of us living in the East look at Russia as a sort of East (watching the news reports anyway). Corruption and transparency problems run rampant here. Just this past December, The investigation committee of the Russian Interior Affairs Ministry finished investigating the criminal case about the largest credit card fraud in Russia's history. Police officers and Federal Security Bureau agents detected a syndicate that was stealing client databases from large banks to fabricate plastic credit cards of the world's leading payment systems - Visa, MasterCard, American Express and others. The criminal organization was selling counterfeit cards to fraudsters in the USA, Canada, Israel, Turkey and many other countries. One of the syndicate's members, Gerasim Selivanov, was on FSB's list of most wanted criminals for quite a long time. 9 - Turkey 8 - Bulgaria One online gambling operator suggested to Sports911 that scamming is a part of the Bulgarian culture. Whether true or not, Bulgaria does enjoy a rather high ratio of credit card fraud. 7 - Egypt Probably not a whole lot of online gamblers coming in from Egypt, but this Middle Eastern country has one of the highest internet fraud rates today. 6 - Lithuania 5 - Yugoslavia 4- Ukraine A fast riser on the Credit Card Fraud radar. 3 - Nigeria This is a given with those well publicized Nigerian Scams but number 3? Sheesh, they probably should be number one. But believe it or not, there are two countries considered far worse on the fraud map. 2. Romania This is a "cash only" economy. While an increasing number of businesses do accept credit cards, travelers are advised to use cash for goods and services rendered due to the prevalence of credit card fraud when visiting this country. A number of confidence scams have been uncovered involving Romanians who contact their prospective American victims through chat rooms or personal advertisements. They generally identify themselves as young Romanian women and develop a relationship・ with their victim over time. Variations of this scam have emerged, but money extortion remains the ultimate goal. Americans who suspect they have fallen victim to this kind of scam should contact American Citizens Services at the Embassy. And the worst fraud country? 1. Indonesia Visa International and Mastercard, the two significant service providers around the globe, currently list Indonesia as No.2 on the list of the worst countries in the world for credit card fraud occurrence by total incidents recorded. |
